About the Book of Ezra
Ezra tells how God kept his promise to bring his people home. After seventy years of exile in Babylon, two waves of Jews return to Jerusalem — first under Zerubbabel, who rebuilds the temple, and later under Ezra the scribe, who restores the people's hearts to the law.
Its 10 chapters and 280 verses record the rebuilding of the temple against opposition, the laying of its foundation, and Ezra's own example: "Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it" (Ezra 7:10). The book also carries the confession that "the hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him" (Ezra 8:22), and it closes with Ezra's tearful prayer of confession over the people's unfaithfulness.
