About VersePicker
A random Bible verse — with context.
Why this exists
Most “random verse” widgets are thin: a handful of famous passages shuffled behind a button, wrapped in a page full of ads. This one reproduces the whole King James Version — 66 books, 1,189 chapters, 31,102 verses — and draws from all of it with equal odds.
Text and rights
Text: King James Version (1769). Public domain in the United States. Rights may differ outside the U.S.
Source: farskipper/kjv (KJV 1769, 'verses-1769.json') (Unlicense (public domain)), retrieved 2026-09-30. The text is reproduced with its original punctuation intact.
How the verse of the day is picked
It is not hand-picked and not random per visitor. The day number is combined with a fixed constant for the translation, and the result selects one of the 31,102 verses. Everyone gets the same verse on the same date, worldwide, until 00:00 UTC.
Privacy
- No account, no email, no sign-up.
- Aggregate analytics only — we can see that a verse was generated, not who generated it.
- Images are rendered on your own device. Nothing is uploaded to a server.
- Your last verse is stored locally in your browser so a reload can show it again; clearing site data removes it.
Editorial stance
Verses are shown in context and never annotated with interpretation. This is a reference tool, not a pastor. Where a passage is hard, it is shown as it is.
