About the Book of 2 Chronicles
2 Chronicles follows the kings of Judah from Solomon to the fall of Jerusalem, with the temple always at the center of the story. It shows blessing and disaster turning on one question: will the king and the people seek the LORD?
Its 36 chapters and 822 verses open with Solomon's prayer at the dedication of the temple and God's great conditional promise: "if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven" (2 Chronicles 7:14). The book also holds Jehoshaphat's word before battle, "the battle is not yours, but God's" (2 Chronicles 20:15), and the LORD's own assurance that "the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth" (2 Chronicles 16:9). It closes with Cyrus's decree allowing the exiles to return.
