About the Book of 3 John

3 John is the shortest letter in the New Testament, addressed to Gaius, a faithful believer who showed hospitality to traveling teachers. John commends his "children" for walking in truth, warns about Diotrephes who loved to have preeminence, and points to Demetrius, who had a good report of all men.

Its single chapter and 14 verses include John's famous wish, "I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth" (3 John 1:2), and his greatest joy, "to hear that my children walk in truth" (3 John 1:4). It closes with the counsel, "follow not that which is evil, but that which is good" (3 John 1:11).
