About the Book of 2 John

2 John is the briefest of John's letters, written to "the elect lady and her children" to guard the household of faith. In just over a dozen verses John rejoices to find "thy children walking in truth," commands love as walking after God's commandments, and warns against receiving false teachers into the home.

Its single chapter and 13 verses contain the definition that "this is love, that we walk after his commandments" (2 John 1:6), the warning that "whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God" (2 John 1:9), and John's longing to speak face to face "that our joy may be full" (2 John 1:12).
