Titus is Paul's brief pastoral letter to his trusted coworker left in Crete to set the church in order. Its theme is simple and searching: sound doctrine must produce good works, and the grace of God trains us not only to believe but to live well.
Its 3 chapters and 46 verses give one of the most beautiful summaries of the Christian life: "the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world" (Titus 2:11-12), with its anchor in "looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13).
